An absolute radiocarbon chronology for the world heritage site of Sarvestan (SW Iran): A late Sasanian heritage in early Islamic era

This study presents a new precise radiocarbon chronology for the World Heritage site of Sarvestan (SW Iran). The monument is key construction in history architecture because it typical Sasanian built during late or early Islamic period. Previous attempts to date have suggested ages ranging from middle (fifth century CE) Abbasid (ninth era. These age estimations are based on analysis architectural plans and techniques, few dates with very large uncertainties. paper results systematic dating timbers walls charcoals plaster mortars used main dome monument. It further applies wiggle matching technique R_Combine function substantially reduce uncertainties wood sections. indicate that major work was undertaken sometime between 658 683 CE, invasion Fars by Muslim Arabs. finding pushes back two centuries suggests at transitional period would been an project designed possibly initiated but mainly accomplished second half seventh CE. can thus be considered heritage Its time political unrest some areas may benefited certain socio-political stabilities expansion Islam into east mid-
